Despite the title, this book was neither written with nor by Pete Townshend.
In fact the story isn't really even told through the eyes of Pete Townshend,
it's a biography about The Who with a lot of quotes from Pete probably lifted from magazine articles.
The first half is the biography, then there is a small section on each of the 4 members of the Who,
then the authors explore the various aspects of the band: influences, their sound, their live performance, etc.
